Three more African leaders, including Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe and South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, have confirmed their attendance of the burial of former Malawi president Bingu wa Mutharika on April 23.

Henry Mussa, chairperson of a Cabinet committee on the funeral arrangements, confirmed the development on Wednesday.

Mussa said another latest confirmation has come from president Mwai Kibaki of Kenya, thereby bringing the total number of heads of State expected to attend the funeral to seven.

He also said Angola would be sending its Speaker of National Assembly Antonio Paulo Kassoma and the People’s Republic of China would be represented by a yet-to-be-named Cabinet minister.

Four other African leaders confirmed their attendance earlier this week. These included Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete, Mozambique’s Armando Guebuza, Benin’s Thomas Yayi Boni and Namibia’s Hipikepunye Pohamba.
